How we compare

We built one of the apps on this list, so we're not neutral. What we can be is specific. Each comparison names what the other app does well, where Hanzi Express is stronger, and which learners each one suits. We teach simplified characters today, with traditional characters coming soon.

Try the first three levels free

Hanzi Express teaches about 3,000 characters in HSK 3.0 order, components before the characters built from them. The first three levels cost nothing; after that it's $8.99 a month or $79.99 a year.
