Hanzi Express teaches people to read Chinese characters. Our structured course covers 13,000+ characters across 100 levels, from HSK 1 upwards, and uses spaced repetition so that what you learn stays learned. The first three levels are free, with no commitment.

Each lesson introduces a small set of new characters with their meanings and readings. You are then quizzed on them at increasing intervals, timed so that you review each character just before you would forget it. Once you have passed every character in a level, you move up to the next one.

Alongside the course we publish free learning tools, such as printable worksheets and a text difficulty checker, a guide to every HSK level, and articles on studying Chinese. None of these need an account.
